Scattered saunas and cabins bringing cold bathing to the islands of Sundsvall’s archipelago. As part of a municipal project for Sundsvall, Juniskären proposed a network of cabins and saunas integrated into the local archipelago. Inspired by the area’s fishing heritage, the design reinterprets spartan timber cabins in traditional red, strengthened by triangular structures to withstand strong coastal winds. Distributed across islands, the buildings create opportunities for natural cold bathing and serve as resting points for kayaking. Raised walkways improve accessibility, ensuring the rugged landscape can be experienced by a wider audience. The proposal was well received by Sundsvall Municipality.
