A playful sound tunnel that lets people connect from a distance. Created during the pandemic, Social distans asked how people might remain close while physically apart. Inspired by playgrounds and auditory play, the concept uses paired steel discs to form sonic tunnels — channels of sound enabling conversation at a safe distance. Mounted on a concrete bench, the discs double as backrests, with bold colours emphasizing its playful, interactive nature. The bench’s indented seat ensures proper alignment within the tunnel. For potential production, Carbicrete — a climate-neutral concrete substitute — was proposed to minimize environmental impact.
