Degrees of a school lunch
Speculative design, product design
2024
A vision of 2060 where schoolchildren harvest mushrooms for lunch, and survival hides in the ordinary objects of daily life. This speculative design imagines a school lunch in 2060, where global warming has surpassed 3°C, causing severe food scarcity. In Sweden, collective mycelium and mushroom farming becomes part of everyday life. Schoolchildren care for food reactors during lessons, contributing both to their meals and to societal resilience. The project frames survival as ordinary: objects designed for crisis still look familiar, quietly sustaining life amid disruption. Developed in collaboration with Vinnova and WWF, the work was presented in the travelling exhibition Degrees of School Lunch, shown at Konstfack during Stockholm Design Week, and featured in Dezeen.
